reminds me that i am
back where i never wanted to be...
a familiar scent or the
lack of it says the last visit hadn't been pleasant.
not at all.
the curtains fall from the faces.
there is a hard marble pallor
in their cheeks.
i like to pretend that they only resemble
the ones i love.
the clock ticks away and the
shiny metal barrel grins at me.
i will die by the hand of its child.
i look at their faces
as the seconds run by.
nine...eight...seven ...six

the world crashes down as realization dawns.
